The Jehovah's Witnesses are notorious for using the "faithful and discrete slave" reference found at Luke 12:42-46 to establish a prophetic precedent about themselves. Do we know the origin of this particular parable? This article explains that the language used in Luke 12 is very similar to the recorded happenings of Joseph. His life became an example that was brought into the New Testament writings through this parable. It doesn't prophetically apply to anyone in particular. It is an example for anyone, who is in a position of oversight, to follow. More over it has personal application. I doubt the inspired writings would have a known example of faithfulness, Joseph, embodied in any other example other than Jesus. That is why it is interesting that the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses have taken this parable and have worn it as a shield of honor. Protecting them from criticism. Turning a simple parable, teaching dutiful responsibility, into a self fulfilling prophecy.
